Fused Cast Corundum Refractories Introduction

Fused cast corundum products are a series of fused cast corundum bricks made from high-purity alumina raw materials and melted and cast at a high temperature of over 2000 ℃ in an electric arc furnace. Due to the use of high-purity raw materials, fewer impurities, and almost no matrix glass phase, it has excellent low pollution performance to glass liquid.

Classification of the Fused Cast Corundum Refractories

According to the crystal structure, it can be divided into three categories: α – β corundum brick (rtk-m), β – corundum brick (rtk-h), and α – corundum brick (rtk-a). Further classification is made according to the appearance quality specification level and casting method. These classification can meet the different requirements of fused cast corundum series products in glass furnaces and metallurgical electrolyzers.

Physical and Chemical Properties of Fused Cast Corundum Refractories

The fused cast α – β corundum refractory is made up of about 50% α – corundum and β – corundum respectively. The crisscross of the two corundum forms a very dense structure and has excellent alkali resistance.

In the temperature range below 1350 ℃, the corrosion resistance of α – β corundum refractory can be as good as that of AZS. Because there are almost no impurities such as Fe2O3 and TiO2, the matrix glass phase is very few, and there are few bubbles and other foreign matters in contact with the molten glass, so it does not pollute the molten glass.

Therefore, it is most suitable for working pool walls, pavement, material channels, and passage of high-grade glass furnaces.

Application of the Fused Cast Corundum Refractory

  • The part contacting the glass liquid after the clarifier of the glass furnace.
  • The fused cast corundum brick is most suitable for the wall and pavement of the working pool, material channel and channel of the high-grade glass furnace, and the electrolytic cell for gold treatment.

Fused α Corundum Refractory

Fused α corundum refractory is a high-grade fused cast refractory with α- Alumina as the main crystalline phase. It is characterized by dense structure, high erosion resistance, high refractoriness and high-temperature structural strength, and good high-temperature chemical stability. It is an ideal material for glass kilns in the low-temperature zone and metallurgical titanium furnaces. It is mainly used in the cooling pool part and superstructure of glass kilns as well as non-ferrous metal smelting furnaces and high-temperature tunnel kilns.

Fused α-β corundum refractories are made of high-purity calcined alumina (more than 95%) and a small amount of admixture, and then put into a three-phase electric arc furnace. The bricks are melted at over 2300°C and cast into a special mold, and then tempered and annealed, and removed. The bricks are cold-processed, pre-assembled, and inspected to meet the customer’s requirements.

Fused α-β corundum refractories are commonly used in light industry, building materials, electronics, and other glass furnaces as high-grade electrofused refractories. It has more excellent performance than other materials in terms of resistance to glass liquid erosion, foaming, and stone formation, and especially has a crystalline structure that is almost non-polluting to glass liquid. Therefore, it is the preferred refractory material for glass forming parts such as the clarification section, working pool, runner, and feed channel of glass kilns.

Fused β Corundum Refractory

Fused β-corundum bricks are characterized by high-temperature resistance, high alkali resistance, and excellent thermal shock stability. It is a new type of refractory material used in the chest wall, spits noisy, and top noisy part of float glass kiln. β-corundum brick is composed of 100% β-alumina, with strong resistance to flaking, especially to strong alkali vapor shows high resistance to erosion, almost no glass phase, and no pollution to molten glass. It can be used in the superstructure part where the glass material is less scattered and its excellent characteristics can be fully developed.
